An insignificant icon…or is it?

I’ve got a relative in my family who has his own business in Ohio. He does carpet cleaning in Parma. He has been in business for a while, doing a lot of study and research. After a while, he started to invest in certain types of equipment, and was also trying to get contracts for his services here and there. It didn’t matter at all if they were small jobs or jobs that didn’t pay too well. He was just glad to be doing the business, and at least breaking even or only losing a little bit at the end of the day. He chalked it up as experience and just kept it moving.

There is definitely something to be said about that. But the problem that he ran into was the fact that he got too comfortable. Sure, the experience is great, but in more cases than not, in order to stay in business your business has to at least start paying for itself. Instead of working mostly on getting business, he was spending most of his time doing the work of the business and doing most or all of the carpet cleaning himself. He was hardworking but hardly paid.

It wasn’t until this family member decided to start working on selling himself and polishing up his approach that things started to change in a very positive and profitable way. He completely changed the way he represented his business, Parma’s Honest Carpet Cleaning. He decided that he was the best representative for his carpet cleaning business. That sounds like an icon to me. What about to you?

Now let’s answer the questions asked in the title of the post. Is he an insignificant icon or not? I guess you could really say it depends on who you are. The reason this is so is because it’s based on so many things that it will take too much time to cover on this post. But let me give you an example. If you are the type of person that is truly unconcerned with anybody or anything unless it directly effects yourself and/or your family or inner circle of people, then you probably would say yes he is an insignificant icon. But the reality is that him and his family are financially free. He is able to spend a good quantity of quality time with his family and is teaching younger people under him to become successful entrepreneurs. Not to mention the fact that the people in Parma Ohio have been blessed with a quality service that is good for them and their families. The best part about this is the service they receive from my relative is truly honest and is done exceptionally well.

If you look at it from that perspective, then I would have to say that he is a significant icon. Sure he’s not making an astronomical bang in the whole world, but i think it would be unfair to say that it has no effect. Every little bit counts. It’s when everyone gives that little bit that it becomes momentous!

Do you consider yourself an icon?

This is actually a pretty good question if you think about it. Another good question to ask yourself before you dive into this article is, “what exactly is an icon?” Before you go off of this page to find the definition, I’ve taken the liberty to do it for you and this is what I found. Merriam-Webster defines it as:

  • a person who is very successful and admired

  • a widely known symbol

There are other definitions that correlate with those definitions and help to round out what this word “icon” actually is. For example, the google definition says:

  • a painting of Jesus Christ or another holy figure, typically in a traditional style on wood, venerated and used as an aid to devotion in the Byzantine and other Eastern Churches
  • a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something

Very interesting…do you agree? This kind of opens a whole host of things that we can explore and talk about.

So back to the original question at hand. Do you consider yourself to be an icon? I’ll give you my answer. Maybe that will help you understand a little bit more about the angle I am coming from.

I do consider myself an icon. Not in the sense that I am very successful and admired, at least not in a worldly standpoint. I am also not a widely known symbol. But I am a person regarded as a representative symbol of something. This is actually very true in my point of view and I’ll explain why.

The reason I consider myself to be an icon is because I am a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Yup, I am a born again, bible believing christian. And because this is who I am, by the nature of this belief, I am also a representative of something. I am a representative of the “body of Christ.” Or you could just say that I am a person who represents Jesus himself. I also run my own businesses so I would say that I am an icon for entrepreneurship. So based on that fact alone, you can pretty much assume that what I bring to the table will some how run parallel to those two truths about me.

Now before we continue any further, I would like to make one thing clear. Yes I do believe that I am a man that lives here on earth to represent The Lord Jesus Christ. But, I am not the only one. Every believing, born again christian is a rep for Jesus. I also want you to understand that I do not take the representative position to myself like the pope does. I am not the mediator between God and man. Jesus is. I represent that mediator. Follow me?

I plan on digging a little deeper into what I feel about the pope in future posts. I will be examining the position and nature of the pope and searching for the validity of the pope based on the biblical scriptures. It should be interesting to see where the pope fits in…if in fact he even does.

Thanks for taking the time to read this article, and I plan on continuing this discussion in the near future. Stay tuned and God bless you.

Welcome To My Website

Hello everyone and welcome to my website. I just want to take a quick minute to introduce myself, my site, and what you can expect within the content of this blog.  I’m just a guy that wants to provide some information about different icons that we have seen, witnessed or created in our world.

These icons could be big or small. Significant or of little importance. They could be pictures or people. I’m also choosing to leave as much wiggle room within this blog to throw in the occasional wild card. I enjoy writing and I really just want to provide the world (whoever chooses to listen) with a little piece of me.

As I said, I will be writing about icons among the living and the dead and some of these articles can get pretty deep. But I will also be talking about practical living with articles that wouldn’t necessarily be “deep” at all. The interesting thing about the internet is that it gives you the power to be your own publisher and help to amplify the power of your voice and opinion. This is also the drawback. Because an individual’s voice by nature was created to carry weight, that heaviness and authority and influence is felt even if it is hateful or full of lies. But freedom is freedom right? Thank God for that!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this quick little introduction. I know that it doesn’t completely detail what you will get from the pages of this blog, but I hope that you at least have gotten a slight picture of what to expect. With that being said, I hope you like what you read in the future and stick around to read some more.
